Promote Healthy Ageing
Older persons in rural communities often face unique challenges to their health and well-being. Limited access to healthcare facilities, transportation, and information can contribute to higher rates of chronic diseases and social isolation. To address these issues, we provide person-centred healthcare programs.
We support the UN and WHO in the Decade of Healthy Ageing [2021-2030] and Universal Health Coverage to achieve this goal.
Protect the Rights of Older Persons
Abuse of older persons is a serious issue that can have devastating consequences for victims and their families.
As we age, we may encounter ageism, a form of prejudice and discrimination based on our age. This can lead to social exclusion, feeling different, and limited opportunities.
This is why we work with more than 400 organizations as part of the Global Alliance for Older Persons [ GAROP] in supporting the need for a UN Convention that protects the rights of older persons.
Why we need a UN Convention
A UN Convention on the rights of older people would:
-
Provide a comprehensive framework to promote and safeguard their rights, covering areas such as healthcare, social protection, employment, and participation in decision-making processes.
-
Serve as a powerful tool in combating ageism, discrimination, and neglect, while fostering an inclusive and age-friendly society for all.
-
Address the pressing issue of elder abuse and neglect, which remains a global concern.
-
Establish clear guidelines and mechanisms for preventing, detecting, and addressing instances of abuse, whether physical, emotional, or financial.
-
Promote the importance of dignity, autonomy, and independence for older people, while ensuring that they have access to justice and support systems.
-
Contribute to a shift in societal attitudes and practices by raising awareness and setting standards for the treatment of older people, ultimately fostering a culture of respect and care for our older population.

Social Welfare: Shelter and Zero Hunger
Ensuring that older persons have access to adequate nutrition is a fundamental social welfare objective. Hunger can have severe health consequences, including malnutrition, weakened immune systems, and increased risk of chronic diseases.
Access to safe, affordable, and adequate housing is a fundamental human right, including for older adults. Ensuring that older persons have access to suitable shelter is a critical social welfare objective.
